With work, rehearsing, and life, all culminating in an online radio appearance, in the studio of RawRadioX.com last Friday evening, it was a chaotic week.
My family band, Sentimental Value, played a show at the Phoenix Cafe a few months back, and ended up in talks to appear on the Razor Ray and Dani Cakes show thanks to a new friend in the audience. This past Friday, I ducked out of work a little early, got home, cleaned up, loaded out, and headed into Detroit for a Studio visit and some on air time. This was new territory for both myself, and my son, and we had a great time. The hosts were a lot of fun, we played some tunes, and spent a fair bit of time talking.
Once home, family time began. With great weather in the forecast, the grill was in use as much as possible, and a fair amount of yard work and gardening took place. The house looks much better from the street, though the backyard still needs a lot of elbow grease. The kiddos, between them, got the grass cut, and we all got a bit too much sun. Unfortunately, Dawn is still having asthma and allergy issues, so her time outdoors took its toll, so she’s got to take it easy for the next few days.
I played some music for the family, practiced a bit more with the looping pedal, and we all spent some quality time together, playing Dominoes, watching Doctor Who on Netflix, and generally relaxing together. It’s not exciting, but sometimes you need to unwind.
The week ahead’s back to full steam ahead. My daughter and I are headed to the ball park tomorrow to watch the Tigers and Blue Jays, I’m hoping to get my new glasses later this week (way overdue), and the weekend’s more non-stop action. A four hour show, from 10-2 in Highland on Saturday, then running to a friends’ place to give them some guidance on a construction problem they’re having. Sunday we’re having a fairly large collection of local songwriters over for several hours of song sharing, jamming, and all around fun. It’s a bit overdue, as FAWM (February Album Writing Month) was over three months ago, but we’ve got some great new songs to share, and it’ll likely get the creative juices flowing to get us ready for the 50/90 songwriting challenge, which starts on July 4th, and runs through October 1st, with a goal of 50 new songs.
Well, that’s about it for now. I’m still trying to find time to reload the laptop so I can get back to recording. Life’s just too hectic. for now. Have a great week!
